Fun Day With My Kids

Today I took the day off from life. I did not pick up a textbook, or read my Web CT. I did not focus on the upcoming year as Literacy Coach, or talk about school. I woke up at 8am and dressed the kids and took a day off for fun at the Orlando Science Center. Mommy has been promising them that we would go all summer, but with moving and completing school and changing jobs, it had been put to the back burner. They were so appreciative. It always amazes me how appreciative they are--I must have done something right. We watched Dinosaurs Alive on the Cinedome and studied climate change. My 3 year old is obsessed with dinosaurs. I enjoyed playing with my children today...but back to the grind tomorrow!

Leslie,

I am about to become a first time mother and I'm already wondering how and where I'm going to find the time to be with this child. I really respect the fact that you took that day off to be with your children and it is obvious just how much they appreciated it. Those friends of mine who have kids tell me that my priorities will readjust once I have a little one in my life. Suddenly being the best teacher, getting straight A's on my doctorate, and keeping my house spotless will become less important. I hope they're right :)
